Requirements / organisational issues

Conent of Modelling 1 (or equivalent knowledge from fundamental math / numerics lectures): linear vector spaces, basic variational calculus, least-squares, matrix factorization (PCA/SVD), basic signal theory (aliasing, sampling).

Recommended reading list

Contents

Modelling II complements part one of the lecture by looking into non-linear and geometric modeling methods. This includes:

- geometric representations
- calculus recap; functional equations (ODEs, PDEs, integral eqs.)
- differential geometry of curves and surfaces in 2D/3D
- intrinsic differential geometry
- geometry processing (handling data: reconstruction, shape matching, correspondences, symmetry, etc.)
- time permitting: short look at statistical interpretations of these methods.

As in part I, we will focus on combining theory + practice (this is no math lecture, but there will be some qualitatively presented theory, supplemented by concrete practical assignments).
